Security Subsidy Requirements

To qualify for the security subsidy, the following conditions apply:

  • All tenants and owners of residential/commercial or not for profit properties within the City of Karratha are eligible

  • If you are a tenant, the property owner must approve the installation of the product/s

  • The subsidy amount is up to 50% of the total cost of the products and installation to a maximum of $500 per property, per tenant. Current tenants are eligible to apply for the subsidy, even if they have claimed for a previous property or if a claim has previously been made for the current residence.

  • Single applications can be made to meet the $500 threshold with any one or a combination of approved security products

  • You can submit subsequent applications for additional approved security products, however the new payment amount will be based on the reimbursement amount of previous applications to ensure the $500 threshold is not exceeded

  • Application for the subsidy can only be made after the products have been installed and payment finalised, and all products must be purchased and installed (if applicable) by a City of Karratha based supplier

  • Wireless and hardwired security products are eligible for the subsidy

  • A licensed electrician must install all hardwired sensor security lighting systems

  • You do not need to use a licensed security installer to install CCTV and security alarms if you will be completing the installation yourself

  • If you are engaging (paying) a contractor to install the CCTV or security alarm system, that contractor must be a licensed security installer as outlined in the Security and Related Activities (Control) Act 1996. For a list of licensed security installers visit the WA Police Force website here, scroll down and click on Security Installer

  • Where CCTV is installed, the system must be registered on the WA State CCTV Register, CAM-MAP WA. To register visit: Cam-Map WA | Western Australia Police Force

  • Products purchased and installed prior to 1 March 2019 are ineligible.
