This Environmental Sustainability Strategy defines our values regarding environmental sustainability and outlines how this core principle has been embedded within our broader reporting framework, policies, and plans. It references the City’s Strategic Community Plan’s strategic theme: Our Natural and Built Environment – thriving and sustainable. This builds on the success of the environmentally sustainable initiatives the City has delivered.
This Strategy details our work to date across five focus areas: energy and climate change, waste, water, natural environment, and sustainable development, planning, and infrastructure. Looking ahead, it outlines our short, medium and long term aspirations around energy, water, and waste management efficiency. It outlines our aspirations to deliver leadership in environmental sustainability across our facilities and services to benefit our community.
Our City is located within a recognised national biodiversity hotspot, renowned for its spectacular landscapes and world class recreational experiences, which include boating, camping, fishing, four-wheel driving, and eco-cultural tourism experiences. Our unique environment and enviable outdoor lifestyle are a major drawcard for our growing population and is consistently ranked by the community as one of the top three ‘best things’ about living in our city.
Council welcomes opportunities to collaborate with government, business, and private and public sectors to improve and advance environmental sustainability across our city. Email citygrowth@karratha.wa.gov.au to learn more about ways to be involved in protecting our precious natural environment.
