The Coolawanyah Road and De Witt Road Intersection upgrade project will involve widening the intersection, resurfacing the road, upgrading the culverts, and adding more streetlights to improve visibility and safety. This work aims to address safety issues identified in previous Road Safety Audits, such as insufficient space for heavy vehicles, faded line markings, and inadequate lighting. The project will also include updating traffic islands and line markings, as recommended in the audits.
Located at the entrance to the Karratha Industrial Estate (KIE) in Karratha, WA, this intersection is crucial for accessing major businesses in the area and is part of the RAV 10 Network used by heavy vehicles.
The project is set to begin in January 2025 and will improve safety, functionality, and access for local businesses and the community. Throughout the works, access to businesses will be maintained, and detour routes will be provided during any necessary road closures.
This upgrade is funded by the Australian Government through the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts and is a key initiative to support the ongoing growth and success of the Karratha Industrial Estate.
Important road information
Temporary traffic management will be implemented throughout the project, including a speed restriction and shuttle flow. Road users are reminded to follow all displayed temporary traffic signage.
Coolawanyah Road will be closed between De Witt Road and Mardie Road from 9 to 31 January to facilitate the works. Detour routes will be in place, and access to the LIA will be via the Mooligunn Road intersection.
