The Census counts people where they usually live. Usually live means the place where you have lived, or intend to live, for six months or more.
If you spend 50% or more of your time in the City of Karratha, this is considered your Usual Place of Residence for the Census - even if you spend your time off in another location.
This includes:
- Fly-in Fly-out (FIFO) and Drive-in Drive-out (DIDO) workers
- People who live across multiple towns or locations
- People who spend most of their time in the City of Karratha and use local services and infrastructure
Being counted at your usual place of residence is a Census requirement and helps make sure population and demographic data accurately reflects the people who stay and work in our region. This data is used to plan and fund essential services and infrastructure, including health services, airports, shops, roads, recreation spaces and community facilities.
The City of Karratha has a large workforce and growing population, but when people are not counted where they stay, the region can miss out on funding and investment. Being counted here helps make sure services and infrastructure keep pace with the City of Karratha community‘s needs and supports a better future for everyone who lives, works and spends time here.
Remember, Every Person Counts!
