The City of Karratha manages a range of cemetery related services for the community, including funeral, monument and family history inquiries.
Guided by the City of Karratha Cemeteries Local Law 2017, the City manages several cemeteries within the district, including maintaining each of the cemeteries to ensure that they are aesthetically neat and tidy.
The City’s customer service team can assist with all cemetery enquiries including plot reservations, burial enquires, interment of ashes and monument applications. We can provide families with contact details of funeral directors and monumental masons who can assist with funeral arrangements and monument instalments.
Families can view our Cemetery maps and select plot sites for family members who have passed away, or reserve the plots for future interments by calling or visiting the City's Main Administration Building.
One family member will be required to sign a Grant of Right of Burial which grants them the ‘lease’ over a plot for 25 years and may be extended for a further 25 years upon payment of the set fee. The Grant Holder must produce the relevant paperwork and provide permission for all interments and monumental approvals on the associated plot.
A Niche Wall is situated at Karratha Cemetery for family members wishing to inter ashes. There is no crematorium in Karratha, however families can have ashes interred after cremation in Perth.
Cemeteries are categorised as "open" cemeteries, which are those available for ongoing burials, and "closed" cemeteries. There are also historic cemeteries within the district which date back to burials conducted from the mid 1860's during the early settlement years.
