In consultation with Public Transport Authority, the City has identified two existing bus stops within the central business district that required additional amenities and shelter due to their high usage.
To enhance the accessibility and comfort of patrons using the existing public transport network bus shelters will be installed at existing stops located at the Karratha Health Campus and Karratha City Shopping Centre.
In 2020, the City developed a new design template to provide maximum shade and cross ventilation throughout the year while maintaining visibility through shading devices. The inclusion of insulated roofing panels was added to minimise heat gain under the shelters, and shading devices were designed based on achieving the most amount of shade per orientation. Shadow diagrams analysed the best orientation of the shading devices. This design also includes provision for solar-powered LED lights to the shelter.
The project will improve the public transport patrons experience and we thank our funding partner Rio Tinto.
