The City's 7-Mile Waste Facility's, ‘Cell-0’, has reached the end of its life after 30-years of operation.
This cell requires major capping and remediation works in accordance with the landfill operating licence. The scope of works include installation of lining and gas management systems and the placement of over 150,000 cubic metres of compacted clean fill on top of the cell.
Installation of 115,000 square meters of poly liner, which will be utilised to cover the landfill mound. Use of this liner will ensure that our rainwater will not encounter the waste material, preventing the generation of leachate pollution.
Stage two of the project will also see the installation of a gas extraction system that will capture methane gas generated by the decomposing waste, the gas will be pumped to a flare which will destroy the gas and prevent greenhouse emissions. The project is currently on schedule with works set for completion in October of this year.
Procurement was finalised at the Ordinary Council Meeting in December 2021 with the City awarding Raubex the contract with work scheduled to commence on the 11th of April.
