Local heritage inventory

Local heritage surveys (formerly local heritage inventories or municipal inventories) identify and record places that are, or that might become, of cultural heritage significance.

The local heritage survey (LHS) is a starting resource for local heritage planning and in itself has no statutory role. The LHS helps local governments make decisions that reflect local heritage values, and supports the creation of a heritage list or heritage areas, which identify places to be protected under the local planning scheme. Further information on local heritage surveys is available on the  Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage at: Local heritage surveys (www.wa.gov.au)

Heritage protection and interpretation is an on-going process and at any stage you can nominate places, items, ruins or buildings.

If there is a place or another heritage item you feel should be considered please contact the Local History Librarian on 9186 8555 or email enquiries@karratha.wa.gov.au. Suggestions are collated ready for the next Heritage review.

The City’s local heritage survey was prepared in 2013 and can be read at the links below.
