West Coast is Best Coast with top WA talent to headline REAF

The City of Karratha is excited to announce a slate of exciting performances to round out the Red Earth Arts Festival with a bang

This year’s event will take place from May 4-7 across several venues with a variety of shows taking inspiration from the Pilbara’s diverse marine life.

As part of the festival the City of Karratha is bringing six more acts to the Pilbara to round out the event.

These acts include the multidisciplinary seaside performance SIREN on May 6-7 with dancers wearing skeletal like crinoline skirts and costumes made from upcycled plastics.

Meanwhile, families are invited to dress up in their best op shop festival favourites for the Underwater Op Shop Family Rave on May 5 featuring This Way North, Tomboy, Small Town, Trav James, PSO’s Community Choir and FX Dance.

Also coming to the City for the festival is an evening of laughs with Date Night Comedy on May 5 and Undercurrent Theatre Company’s My Shout - an ode to our inherent desire for connection through alcohol – on May 6.

The two highlights of REAF is Best Coast and Better Together events.

Best Coast brings a brilliant bounty of WA live performance to Karratha with this day-long event celebrating our West Coast talent.

The line-up features some of WA’s best performers including Abbe May, Kill Devil Hills, WA Badass Gospel Choir, Perth Symphony Orchestra presents Urban Brass and Karratha Mass Community Choir and DJ Panda.

Meanwhile Better Together is a free picnic party at the Red Earth Arts Precinct Amphitheatre on May 7 celebrating diversity in the Pilbara.

This free event is headlined by the legendary Gina Williams and Guy Ghouse, with Sarah Pellicano, Joni in the Moon, The Krui3ers and Mango Cha Cha all joining the festivities.

City of Karratha Deputy Mayor Kelly Nunn said the latest line-up announcement offered something for every age group.

“From the family friendly Better Together picnic and the Underwater Op Shop Rave to Date Night Comedy and Best Coast music extravaganza, there is something for all residents to enjoy,” Cr Nunn said.

“Fans of the arts are in for a treat this year and we have been particularly lucky to secure some amazing talent.

“I encourage everyone to get out to see a show, and get involved in an exciting Red Earth Arts Festival.”

This year's festival is proudly presented by the City of Karratha with support from Principal Partner Rio Tinto. Government partners include Festivals Australia & the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries.
