Sporting stars, officials, volunteers, and coaches in Karratha were celebrated for their hard work and community spirit.Â
The annual City of Karratha Community Sports Awards were held on Friday 25 October at the Red Earth Arts Precinct celebrating local clubs and codes. Â
Presented by the City of Karratha, the awards recognise players, coaches, officials and volunteers who have made a significant contribution to their sporting code.Â
Gemma Rodgers was crowned Santos Sportsperson of the Year for her achievements in BMX.Â
Meanwhile, Yani Davis was named Woodside Energy Junior Sportsman of the Year and Lacy Robinson was the Rio Tinto Junior Sportswoman of the Year.Â
City of Karratha Mayor Daniel Scott said local sporting groups enhanced and improved the region’s liveability.Â
"The sporting groups across Dampier, Karratha, Roebourne and Wickham are flourishing thanks to the talent they nurture,” Cr Scott said.Â
“Each club contributes to the community by promoting fitness and well-being while fostering connections among residents.Â
"Congratulations to all the winners and nominees of this year’s awards, and I appreciate everyone who nominated players and supported the event."Â
