City unveils $11 million Club and Change Rooms

The City of Karratha officially opened the new multi-million dollar Club and Change Rooms at the Kevin Richards Memorial Oval.

The opening on Saturday marked the completion of the first stage of works for the multi-year rejuvenation of Kevin Richards Memorial oval.

The completion of the stage one works – valued at nearly $11 million - included a new play space, northern car park and the construction of this fantastic change and club room facility.

The next stage of the development will see the multi-use hardcourts and lighting upgrades as well as the oval playing surface lighting.

City of Karratha Mayor Peter Long said the new facility was the beginning of a multi-purpose oval that would grow sports in the community.

“We know how important sport is to our local community and providing first class sports precincts and multi purpose facilities goes a long way to improving our Cities liveability for the community,” Cr Long said.

“The new club and changerooms as well as the grandstand, and play space will help meet current and future needs of our community.

“On top of this, expanding the facilities at the KRMO will provide space to continue to increase participation in sports and allow the clubs to grow.

“This will provide further opportunities for our local sporting stars to flex their skills, be active participants in the community and have the ability to develop their skills to new heights.”

Stage 1 of the project received funding from  State Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, Australian Government Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications and LotteryWest.
