An amended policy aimed at providing an equitable and fair outcome for fixed and mobile businesses is now available for public comment.
City of Karratha councillors approved the proposed draft amendments of the Stallholder and Street Traders Policy for advertising as part of a review into the policy.
The City will now conduct further consultation with relevant businesses, including hosting workshops and meetings in each town, to ensure the policy changes are meeting the needs of the community.
This follows an initial survey to gather insights into the challenges and trends faced by fixed businesses, mobile traders and consumers, with 287 responses received.
City of Karratha Mayor Daniel Scott said the City recognises the positive impact mobile traders have on our economy and community.
“Our initial survey was launched in response to concerns and feedback from both mobile traders and fixed businesses.
“Now that draft changes to the policy have been made, we will be extending consultation to ensure that the views of the business and broader community are taken into consideration prior to Council deciding whether to adopt any or all of the proposed changes”.
“We want to see both fixed businesses and mobile trader thrive across the City and I look forward to seeing our business community work together as part of this consultation process.”
The draft policy can be found at https://whatwemakeit.karratha.wa.gov.au/stallholders-and-street-trading-policy-review and consultation will close at 4.30pm on Wednesday 18 December.
