City to provide support for the return of City to Surf

Western Australia’s oldest community fun run is expected to attract hundreds of participants when it returns to Karratha this year.

The City of Karratha has agreed to provide sponsorship for two years to help deliver the event in Karratha on 30 July 2023 and a date to be confirmed in 2024.

The Chevron City to Surf for Activ was last held in Karratha in 2019 and attracted over 500 participants.

The City to Surf is a family-friendly fun run accessible for all ages and abilities, offering a 4km and 12km course for participants to walk or run in both Karratha and Perth.

Karratha is the only regional location in Western Australia to host a City to Surf event and is expected to attract over 700 participants.

As part of the funding agreement, the City will provide $40,000 over two years as part of its major event sponsorship and attraction program.

City of Karratha Deputy Mayor Kelly Nunn said the event was expected to see hundreds of locals participate.

“Since its inception in 1975, the Chevron City to Surf for Activ has grown from hundreds to thousands of participants and raised more than 10 million dollars for people living with disability,” Cr Nunn said.

“Supporting this much-loved event that brings the community from across our five towns and further afield together.

“The event also aligns with Council’s Strategic Community Plan to provide access to fitness and wellbeing programs, support local business, and activate the Karratha city centre.”

Deputy Mayor Nunn said she encouraged residents of all fitness levels to participate in the event.

“It has been four years since the City to Surf was in Karratha, and we’re expecting a great turnout for the fun and friendly event,” Cr Nunn said.
