City of Karratha seeks community feedback on call for Covid Royal Commission

The City of Karratha is seeking community feedback on a proposed Notice of Motion on whether the City should advocate for a Royal Commission into Australia’s COVID-19 response.

The motion proposed by Cr Brenton Johannsen seeks a comprehensive review of the COVID-19 response across the three tiers of Government through a Royal Commission.

The aim of consultation is to gather understand public sentiment on this matter and the City of Karratha’s role.

Community feedback will help inform a final Council decision when the motion is considered at the December Council meeting.

City of Karratha Mayor Daniel Scott emphasised the importance of gathering a broad and diverse range of perspectives on this issue.

“As the level of government closest to the people our role is to represent the voices of our community,” Mayor Scott said.

“We understand the concerns raised by Cr Johannsen and want to know if our community believes local government has a role to play in advocating for a Royal Commission into COVID-19."

“It’s crucial that we hear from as many residents as possible to understand how they feel about this motion.”
