The City of Karratha will invest almost $16 million in the renewal and upgrade of community facilities across the region as part of its 2026/27 Annual Budget.
Ensuring residents have access to safe, functional and high-quality facilities and services remains a key focus of the City, with $15.94m allocated to maintain and improve community assets.
This funding covers works from facility renewals at the Karratha Airport, Karratha Leisureplex and Wickham Recreation Precinct, to upgrades to our Natural assets, parks and Sporting precincts.
Major investments include upgrades at Karratha Airport, with works to renew airfield lighting and electrical infrastructure, extend the runway safety area, replace the fire main and improve passenger amenities.
Community and sporting facilities will also benefit from a range of renewal projects, including improvements at the Karratha Leisureplex, upgrades to sporting lighting, and enhancements at the Wickham Recreation
The budget also delivers substantial investment in roads and pathways, including road resealing, kerb and footpath renewals, and improvements to local traffic safety and accessibility infrastructure.
City of Karratha Mayor Daniel Scott said the renewal program was essential to ensuring community assets remained safe, reliable and fit for purpose.
“Renewing our existing infrastructure is one of the most important investments we can make as a local government,” Mayor Scott said.
“These projects ensure our facilities, parks, roads and public spaces continue to meet the expectations of our community while protecting the value of assets that have been built over many years.
“By investing in renewal today, we are reducing future maintenance costs, improving service delivery and ensuring our infrastructure continues to support the needs of current and future generations.”
The renewal program forms part of the City's broader 2026/27 Capital Works Program and aligns with Council's vision of creating Australia's most liveable regional city.
