Explore the rich history of the City of Karratha with a series of free events and workshops in celebration of the 2024 Australian Heritage Festival

The City of Karratha is celebrating the Australian Heritage Festival from April 18 – May 19 by immersing locals into the diverse heritage our country has to offer.

This year’s event is “Connections” with the aim of encouraging the community to celebrate our unique and varied stories, strengthen cultural and historical ties and forge new bonds.

The City’s local history will be on full display with events including family history research workshops on April 18 and May 16, a guided Cossack Museum Tour on April 19, a session on writing your family history on April 20.

Other events include a workshop on preserving your memories on May 6, the Dampier Memories morning tea on May 17 and a Point Samson Memories morning tea on May 18.

City of Karratha Mayor Daniel Scott said the festival would celebrate the unique history of Karratha.

“The Australian Heritage Festival is a great opportunity for locals to embrace their own history and the unique history of our City,” Cr Scott said.

“We have a range of events on offer throughout the month and these provide our residents with a chance to share their own stories.

“These events include a fascinating Cossack Museum tour as well as family friendly morning teas in Dampier and Point Samson where I encourage locals to share cherished memories of our surrounding communities.”
