The Wickham South Youth Recreation Area project was developed in response to community consultation, which identified a need for additional recreational infrastructure within Wickham South Park. The project will enhance the existing park through the delivery of new recreation facilities and supporting infrastructure.
Works include
- 3x3 basketball half-court
- Three handball courts
- Hit-up wall
- Netball goal ring
- Bouldering play structure
- Universal access toilet
- Seating and shaded areas
- Landscaping and drainage improvements
Access and safety
Temporary construction fencing will be installed around the construction area at Wickham South Park and will remain closed to the public for the duration of construction.
Public road access surrounding the park will remain open. Community members are asked to follow onsite signage, remain outside the fenced area and take care when travelling near the works.
Some construction noise, vehicle movements and temporary access changes may occur. Every effort will be made to minimise disruption to nearby residents and park users.

Why is the Wickham South Youth Recreation Area being built?
The project was developed following community consultation, which identified a need for more recreation opportunities for young people in Wickham South. The new facilities will create a welcoming space for informal sport, social connection and active recreation.
Will Wickham South Park remain open during construction?
The construction area will be fenced off and inaccessible to the public for safety. Areas outside the fenced work zone will remain open where it is safe to do so.
Will there be any road closures or traffic disruptions?
No road closures are expected. Public access around the park will remain largely open, however there may be occasional construction vehicle movements. Residents are encouraged to refer to and follow any traffic management measures in place, including temporary signage, to ensure safe access around the area.
Will construction be noisy?
Some noise, dust and increased vehicle activity are expected during construction. The City and its contractors will make every effort to minimise disruption to nearby residents and park users.
What is happening to the bowerbird bower in the park?
A bowerbird bower was identified within the construction area. Bowers are built by male bowerbirds to attract mates through displays of collected items and are not used for nesting. As the bower is deemed abandoned, the collected trinkets were relocated outside the construction area for the bird to reuse in its new bower.
Why can't the bower stay where it is?
The bower is located within the construction footprint and cannot remain in place while works are carried out as the site needs to be excavated to make room for the recreation area.
Will any trees be removed?
Some vegetation management is required to accommodate the new recreation area. Where possible, existing trees and vegetation will be retained, with additional landscaping incorporated into the project to enhance the park.
