Luxury cruise ship visits the City of Karratha

The City of Karratha has welcomed luxury expedition cruise ship Le Soléal to the region, with guests enjoying unique tourism experiences showcasing the internationally significant landscapes, industry and cultural heritage of Murujuga.

The luxury expedition cruise ship berthed at Port of Dampier on 31 July, marking a rare opportunity for visitors to experience the region through a range of bespoke shore excursions. The visit was made possible through collaboration between the City of Karratha, Dampier Seafarers, Pilbara Ports and Murujuga Aboriginal Corporation (MAC), who worked together to deliver a memorable onshore experience.

Guests took part in the Dampier Seafarers Port Tour and guided cultural rock art tours with MAC Rangers, providing an authentic insight into the cultural significance of the World Heritage listed Murujuga Cultural Landscape.

To further enhance their visit, guests were also welcomed to Hearson Cove, where the City worked with MAC to deliver  a small market featuring local stallholders and regional products, alongside a bush medicine demonstration by Traditional Owners in one of the Pilbara's most iconic coastal locations.

The successful visit demonstrates the potential for future cruise tourism in the region while highlighting the City of Karratha's ability to work with key partners to create authentic visitor experiences that celebrate the cultural significance of Murujuga.
