Award winning oil painter, Annette Peterson has been selected as the Cossack Art Awards 2022 Artist in Residence.
Sponsored by Principal Partner Rio Tinto, the Artist in Residence program will see Annette relocate to the historic townsite of Cossack for a four-week immersive residency.
During this time, Annette will work from a studio space to develop a body of work inspired by her experience at Cossack and lead a series of workshops and artist talk as part of the 2022 Public Program.
City of Karratha Mayor Peter Long said the City is delighted to present the Artist in Residence program as part of the of the 30th Cossack Arts Awards.
“The Cossack Art Awards was started by Cossack caretaker and sole resident at the time, Brian Hoey, who was mesmerised by the location, so it is fitting the Artist in Residence is a key feature of the program for its 30th anniversary,” Cr Long said.
“The Cossack Arts Awards is a highlight of the City’s events calendar and provides a unique opportunity for local artists to showcase their talent as well as attracting accomplished artists such as Annette.”
“I am looking forward to seeing the high calibre submissions entered by artists from across the Pilbara and beyond and look forward to celebrating 30 years of this wonderful event.”

Cossack Arts Awards 2022 Artist in Residence Annette Peterson said she is motivated to document movement through painting phenomenal experiences, applying both a studio and plein air approach to her practice.
Annette utilises photography and painting techniques to facilitate both realistic and impressionistic style landscapes.
The 2022 Cossack Art Award exhibition is open to the public from 17 July to 7 August 2022.

Annette Peterson was born in Stavanger, Norway, Annette and grew up in Perth, becoming most influenced by changes in light and atmosphere on everyday suburban street scenes, especially the suburban drive. She is motivated to document movement through painting phenomenal experiences and has both a studio and plein air approach to her practice, utilising photography, and painting CEO Resignationtechniques to facilitate both realistic and impressionistic style landscapes.
