Nominate Your 2025 Community Citizen of the Year

It’s time to start thinking about who you know who is doing amazing things in our local community!

The Community Citizen of the Year Awards gives us the opportunity to celebrate the positive impact of individuals and groups who are engaged and committed to our local area. Whether they are a nominee or recipient, we can all celebrate their outstanding contribution, because we’re all part of the story.

Recognising local heroes for more than 20 years, the Awards are made up of four categories:

  • Community Citizen of the Year (for individuals over 16 years)
  • Young Community Citizen of the Year (for individuals aged 16-30 years)
  • Senior Community Citizen of the Year (for individuals aged 65 years and over)
  • Active Citizenship (for community groups or events)

Nominations can be made for contributions to education, health, fundraising, voluntary services, business, sports, arts, the environment, social inclusion or any other area that enhances the wellbeing of our community. For the full criteria, visit www.citizenshipawards.com.au/criteria

City of Karratha Mayor Daniel Scott highlighted that the awards honour the strong sense of community across all towns within the City of Karratha.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to recognise those who selflessly give their time and energy to better our community,” said Mayor Scott.

“These individuals are the backbone of our region, consistently dedicating themselves to their causes and groups,” said Cr Scott.

“Their commitment and spirit are helping to make the City of Karratha Australis’s most liveable regional city, bringing vibrancy and growth to every corner of our community.”

New research from Auspire – Australia Day Council WA, which delivers the Awards in partnership with local councils across Western Australia, supports the presence of such community award programs for the social, cultural and economic impact they make.

In a survey of 2024 recipients, 85% of respondents said the Awards encourage active citizenship, with 91% believing that they are a great way to recognise leaders. Furthermore, 86% of respondents agree that the Awards make communities more inclusive.

Nominations for the 2025 Community Citizen of the Year Awards are now open until 31 October 2024 and can be submitted at www.citizenshipawards.com.au/nominate
