City welcomes Karratha land release

The City of Karratha has welcomed State Government announcements confirming the release of the next two stages of land at Madigan Estate.

This will provide 174 lots, 89 of which will be for general release to the market, while 85 will be sold to Perdaman to house workers for its $7 billion Urea Project.

This week the City met with the Premier and ministers as part of State Government’s Community Cabinet visit to Karratha to better understand the issues facing our local community.

City of Karratha Mayor Daniel Scott said he reiterated the need for collaboration to ensure land and housing stock is available,” Cr Scott said

“As a local government council, we are acutely aware of the housing issues facing our community and have been proactive in progressing housing projects where we have the ability to do so,” Cr Scott said.

“We have more recently expanded the service worker accommodation program in partnership with industry providing an additional 66 dwellings at an affordable rate for essential workers and recently sought expressions of interest to deliver housing projects on undeveloped City-owned residential land, receiving a number of strong proposals.”

“Our research shows however there will be a significant shortfall of residential dwellings in Karratha over the next two years.”

“We are urging all levels of government and industry to look at ways we can work together to boost available housing stock in our region and look forward to seeing more investment in the future to help address this critical issue.
