Golf Course Maintenance Compound

The City of Karratha is redeveloping the Karratha Golf Course Maintenance Compound to provide improved facilities that support the delivery of high-quality course maintenance. The project includes a new maintenance shed and wider compound upgrades to provide efficient work areas for the team maintaining the course. The improvements will also support the competition standards and the growing community of this award-winning golf course.

Jointly managed by the City of Karratha and the Karratha Country Club under a MOU agreement, the City oversees general course maintenance, providing facilities and engaging an external service provider to deliver this work.

This project is part of the Golf Course Improvements Masterplan. Following the completion of Stage 1 in 2022 which involved grassing the greens, new tee boxes and increased trees for shading, stage 2 will now begin. This focuses on upgrading the back-end Golf Course Maintenance Compound.

Scope of the upgrades

The upgrades to the maintenance compound consist of two key elements:

  1. New maintenance shed (36m x 12m) with:

- 290m2 of floor space for plant/equipment storage and maintenance.
- Dedicated office space with separate superintendent office.
- Staff room and associated facilities.
- Accessible toilet amenity and locker/storage area.
- Two (2) fertiliser stores with pallet racking, in accordance with safe storage of chemical storage.
- Mezzanine over office areas for storage.

    2. Wider compound upgrades:

- Four (4) parking spaces, inclusive of one (1) accessible space.
- New gates at existing entry locations.
- Extension of the compound area to the east, (allowing for increased activity and better plant and machinery circulation).
- New concrete sand storage bunker.
- Cyclone rated tie-downs for equipment.
- New washdown pad with relocation of the existing dome shade structure and containers overhead.
- New sewage treatment and disposal system.
- New chemical storage facility, compliant to current health and safety regulations and requirements.
- New bunded fuel area with bulk fuel storage, in accordance with safe regulations and practices for storing fuel.

Access and Safety

Construction works are expected to have minimal impact on course users. The contractor’s worksite will be contained within the existing maintenance compound area (shown in blue), with plant, equipment, and materials delivered via the service track (shown in red). All deliveries will be coordinated with the Karratha Golf Course to minimise disruption to recreational play and competitions.

Please note, while works are expected to have minimal impact on recreational play and competitions, alternate 12th and 13th tee locations will be in place for weekday play to mitigate risk during construction. A map outlining these temporary changes will be available on this project page and at the clubhouse once works commence.

There will be increased movement of machinery entering and exiting the compound during this period. Course users are reminded to remain aware of their surroundings and follow all signage near the service track and surrounding areas. Access to the fenced construction area is strictly prohibited. Active works are underway and pose safety risks, please stay outside barriers at all times.
