About Karratha

The City of Karratha is located in the Pilbara, a globally significant centre of mining and energy. Key industries include Oil & Gas (North West Shelf and Woodside), Iron Ore (Rio Tinto), Salt (Dampier Salt), and Fertiliser (Yara).

Karratha is well positioned to lead Australia’s transition to the new energy economy, with a pipeline of projects underway. ($4.5BN KARRATHA UREA PROJECT AGREES EPC TERMS - Welcome to Perdaman)

The level of growth and investment is expected to place pressure on community facilities and infrastructure.  In cooperation with the Pilbara Development Commission the City has commissioned a ‘cumulative impact study’ to track the pressure points of large-scale projects on the local community.  This will be used to facilitate local planning, and support advocacy discussions with State and Federal Government.
