City celebrates Seniors Week with week-long program of free events

The City of Karratha is celebrating the valuable contribution of senior citizens with a week of free, fun-filled events.

Seniors Week runs from Sunday 9 to Saturday 15 November, and the program features a diverse range of activities designed to encourage connection, creativity, and wellbeing.

These activities include art workshops, cultural celebrations, a pamper day, live entertainment, and health and fitness sessions.

City of Karratha Mayor Daniel Scott said the week was a wonderful opportunity to recognise and celebrate the important role seniors play in the community.

“Seniors Week is about honouring the experience, knowledge and generosity of our older residents while creating opportunities for them to connect, learn, and have fun,” Cr Scott said.

“We are excited to offer a variety of free events for our seniors, from painting and dancing to even a little friendly competition at the baking contest. There truly is something for everyone.”

The week kicks off with Paint and Sip at Point Samson Community Hall, where participants can explore their creativity in a relaxed group setting.

Other highlights include Ngaarda Yarning and Ringo Game, Ageless Glam Pamper Morning, Rhythms of Health: Latin Dance & Bingo, and a second Paint and Sip session at Dampier Community Hall.

A key feature of this year’s program is the second annual Sweet Treats & Savoury Eats Baking Competition, held on Monday 10 November at the Red Earth Arts Precinct.

Seniors are invited to show off their culinary skills, with prizes awarded for creativity, taste, and presentation. After the judging, attendees can enjoy high tea and a free screening of The Penguin Lessons.

Events are free, with some requiring bookings to secure a spot.

“We encourage our seniors to come along, get involved, and celebrate the vibrant and diverse community we have here in the City of Karratha,” Cr Scott said.
