Bathgate Road and Tambrey Drive upgrades

Bathgate Road and Tambrey Drive form a key movement corridor, connecting residential areas, schools, community facilities and local businesses. Areas of Bathgate Road and Tambrey Drive will undergo upgrades focused on improving safety and overall network efficiency in the area.

The project will deliver the detailed design and full construction of upgrades to Bathgate Road between Dampier Road and Tambrey Drive. The works will include:

  • Widening the road to allow for a central median and selected dedicated turning lanes
  • A new roundabout at the Tambrey Drive and Bathgate Road intersection, including roundabout landscaping
  • Relocating the Dreamers Hill crossover further north
  • New pedestrian paths on both sides of Bathgate Road and also connecting to the Rosemary Road pedestrian underpass
  • Improved stormwater drainage

These upgrades will provide safer turning movements and improved access for pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles, while enhancing overall traffic efficiency in the area.

The City anticipates the release of the construction tender late-2026, with construction works anticipated to begin early next year. During construction, road users can expect staged works with traffic management in place. The City will be working closely with local businesses and mobile traders ahead of construction to minimise disruption and maintain safe access wherever possible.

This project is jointly supported through funding from the Regional Road Group (road works) and Active Transport (footpaths).

What is the purpose of this project?

The upgrades aim to improve road safety, reduce congestion, upgrade intersections, enhance pedestrian and cycling access, and improve drainage and landscaping between Dampier Road and Tambrey Drive.

When will construction happen and how long will it take?

Construction timelines are dependent on the weather and successful construction tenderer. However, construction is planned to start early 2027.

Will there be road closures or traffic delays?

Yes. Temporary lane closures, detours and reduced speed zones may be required at different stages. Traffic management will be in place to keep vehicles moving safely. More information will be provided when the construction contractor is awarded.

How will pedestrian and cyclist access be maintained?

Footpaths and crossings will remain open where safe to do so. Temporary paths and signage will be provided during construction, with long-term improvements delivered as part of the project.

What noise, dust or general disruptions should residents expect?

Construction may generate noise, dust and vibration at times. Contractors will follow environmental controls to reduce impacts, and noisy works will be scheduled during appropriate hours.

Will emergency services and public transport still have access?

Yes. Emergency vehicle access is always maintained. If bus stops need to be temporarily moved, the City will notify the public ahead of time.

How will the City keep the community informed?

Updates will be provided through the City’s website, social media, onsite signage, and direct notifications where needed. Major changes to access or traffic conditions will be communicated in advance.

What improvements will the community see once the project is complete?

Safer intersections, smoother traffic flow, better connectivity for pedestrians and cyclists, improved stormwater drainage, refreshed landscaping and enhanced access to nearby amenities and businesses.

Who is funding the works?

The project is jointly funded by the City and its funding partners. Funding partners include Active Transport (footpaths) and Regional Road Group (road works).

Who can I contact for more information?
