Dampier Palms and Hampton Oval Redevelopment

The Dampier foreshore redevelopment delivered in 2019 transformed the foreshore, offering residents and visitors an enhanced coastal recreation experience and improved beach amenity.

Project overview:

The City of Karratha redeveloped The Palms precinct on the Dampier foreshore to provide an outstanding recreational facility for the Dampier and Karratha community and visitors. The project's objectives were to:
  • Create a ‘destination’ foreshore of choice for residents and visitors;
  • Cater for a wide range of activities including:
    • Land and water-based activities;
    • Community and/or commercial;
    • All ages and interests;
  • Capitalise on Dampier’s natural and unique scenery;
  • Improve and enhance amenity; and
  • Effectively manage environmental impacts.
The Master Plan took into account:
  • The existing site conditions;
  • Issues pertaining to coastal vulnerability;
  • Parking and vehicular access;
  • Drainage and stormwater;
  • Recreational infrastructure;
  • Beach access;
  • Existing playing fields;
  • Soft landscaping; and
  • Space requirements for commercial opportunities.
This report describes how each of the above elements has contributed to the development of the Master Plan.

Total: $13.6 million
$9.6 million - City of Karratha
$2.5 million - Rio Tinto
$1.4 million - State Government through Lotterywest
