Planning progresses as hub scope settled

The scope for a new community hub in Wickham has been finalised by Council following extensive consultation with the community.
The facility will feature a new library, youth space, early learning centre and will be characterised by flexible multi-purpose spaces.
The facility will also feature extensive outdoor spaces including a water play area, skate space and landscaping.
City of Karratha Deputy Mayor John Lally said the agreement on scope had come about thanks to the hard work of the project’s Community Reference Group.
“The community is very much looking forward to this project and that is reflected in the level of interest we have seen during the consultation process,” Cr Lally said.
“This project will deliver a number of much-needed facilities to Wickham, such as child care spaces, youth areas and multi-purpose spaces that can convert to a community hall,” he said.
“The Dampier Community Hub is already underway and we want to deliver something equally fantastic for Wickham residents.”
Discussions are continuing with prospective funding partners to raise the estimated $15.5 million required for the project.
Detailed design for the project is expected to be completed by early 2016.
