Pavilion set to get underway

Design plans are being finalised for a new multipurpose sports pavilion at Karratha’s Tambrey oval.
Pindan Contracting has been awarded the design and construction contract for the Tambrey Pavilion after being nominated by Council as the preferred contractor in December last year.
City of Karratha Mayor Peter Long said the new pavilion would provide the city with a sporting hub in Karratha’s western suburbs and offered further venue options for events, community groups and sporting fixtures.
“The Tambrey oval is the only active recreation space in Karratha where currently there are no change room or pavilion facilities provided on site for users. The Tambrey pavilion will remedy this, providing the same level of amenity afforded to the eastern end of Karratha and surrounding towns.” Cr Long said.
“Once this facility is complete we anticipate increased participation from existing sports clubs based at the oval and other local groups and organisations for whom this space would be appropriate. With a community hall, storeroom, kitchenette and server included in the design the space is suited to a wide variety of uses.”
Pilbara Regional Manager for the Department of Sport and Recreation Brendan Cullinan said the facility would be beneficial to groups and individuals right throughout the community.
“The development of the Tambrey facility, with support from the Department’s Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund, provides a great opportunity for people to connect and be more physically active,” Mr Cullinan said.
“The facility will become a hub of activity providing many benefits to people of all ages in the local community,” he added.
Pilbara Development Commission Acting Chief Executive Officer Terry Hill said the pavilion would be a great addition to the community infrastructure in Karratha.
“The Pilbara Development Commission is pleased to support the Tambrey Pavilion through the Regional Grants Scheme, a funding scheme that enables locally-driven decision making and prioritisation of projects,” Mr Hill said.
The final pavilion design will be confirmed by the end of March 2016 with works to commence soon after. The project is set for completion in October of this year.
The Tambrey Pavilion is supported by the City of Karratha and the State Government of Western Australia through both the Department of Sport and Recreation and the Pilbara Development Commission through the Royalties for Regions program.
