New inter-regional flights network a boon to businesses

16 Aug 2019

The new inter-regional flight network that took off from Karratha today is expected to be a boon to the business community.

Services between Karratha, Newman, Port Hedland and Broome commenced from today, with an additional service between Karratha and Paraburdoo to be introduced in coming months.

The City of Karratha, Shire of East Pilbara, Aviair and Rio Tinto partnership will increase connectivity between centres in Pilbara and the Kimberley.

City of Karratha Mayor Peter Long said the inter-regional flight network offered Karratha businesses new opportunities and promoted economic development across the Pilbara region.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for Karratha businesses to significantly reduce the travel-related costs associated with driving to these destinations, such as fuel, accommodation and meals,” Cr Long said.

“Time is a valuable commodity for business-owners and this network will make it easier for businesses, the community and workforces to improve efficiency and productivity.

“While Council understands some may prefer to drive, these flights offer an alternative for residents and visitors and strengthens Karratha’s position as the regional capital of the North West.

“Supporting inter-regional flights aligns with strategic outcomes identified in the City’s Economic Development Strategy to make the City of Karratha more attractive for businesses to establish and grow, which will improve the overall quality and diversity of goods, services, business and job opportunities available.”
