Major upgrades set for Karratha Leisureplex

The first stages of the Karratha Leisureplex Master Plan are set to get underway after Council accepted a tender for the Gymnasium and Function Room Redevelopment.
In November 2020, Council endorsed the Karratha Leisureplex Improvement Study Master Plan that includes six stages of significant upgrades and redevelopments and incorporates feedback from key stakeholders and community consultation.
The first stages of the Master Plan, identified as highly popular priority initiatives in the Improvement Study, will see the Group Fitness Function Room and Gymnasium completely redeveloped.
City of Karratha Mayor Peter Long said the upgrades will vastly improve the facility for the community.
“Since opening in 2013, the Karratha Leisureplex has seen over 3.5 million visitors through its doors and it was always anticipated that refurbishments would occur from time to time,” Cr Long said.
“Initial improvements including the oval spectator shade are underway with the contract signed for construction and works to begin shortly. The redevelopment of the Gym and Function Room represent the next steps of the overall works that will vastly improve facilities and amenity at the Leisureplex, while meeting growing community expectations”.
Local company Trasan Contracting Pty Ltd was awarded the tender to carry out the works. Council has allocated $420,000 for the project as part of the March 2021 Budget review with the project estimated to cost roughly $390,000.
The next stages of the Master Plan include a significant solar initiative, pool spectator seating and an outdoor court redevelopment. Further information about the project is available at https://karratha.wa.gov.au/karratha-leisureplex-expansion-project.
