Great view at Point Samson

New views are on the horizon for Point Samson with Council signing off on the final design for an elevated viewing structure at Monday night’s Council meeting.
Council opted to fund the longer of two design options based on that it would deliver a better outcome for the community.
Tenders will now be called for the estimated $1.2million project, which will extend 70 metres in length and finish with a 40 square metre viewing platform and shade shelter.
City of Karratha Mayor Peter Long said Council had worked closely with the Point Samson Community Association on this project and the viewing platform had been designed to have the same look and feel as the original jetty.
“This is a really important project for the City and the Point Samson Community Association have been a driving force in getting it off the ground. Council and the PSCA have worked together to come up with a final viewing platform design that meets with community desires and we are excited to see it get underway,” Cr Long said.
“Our final design reflects the history of the precinct with the viewing platform essentially sitting over the original jetty site and even imitating some aspects, including painting all steel elements white and decking reminiscent of wooden boards,” he said.
This development forms part of Council’s work to rejuvenate the Point Samson Foreshore under the Point Samson Foreshore Management Plan. The proposed second stage of this project is a jetty that extends 150m out over the water, ending with a fishing platform however funding is yet to be allocated for this component.
