Foreshore improvements move closer
02 Mar 2018
Proposed works to improve amenity at Dampier foreshore will now take next steps with construction design and documentation to be finalised ahead of a call for tenders.
The $10M redevelopment project will include three activity zones featuring an elevated play structure, climbing wall, half basketball court and toddler area with a view to commence construction in the new financial year.
The existing pavilion will also undergo a number of modifications that will see it integrated into the new design and linked to a proposed small amphitheatre area.
City of Karratha Mayor Peter Long said the works would further highlight the Dampier Palms area as a natural space for the community to come together with some exciting design features to be included.
“The Palms is a well utilised area of Dampier foreshore and the redevelopment of the surrounding space will enhance both the public amenity on offer and the natural beauty of the location,” Cr Long said.
“The proposed works to our Dampier Foreshore Redevelopment program will complement those completed at Shark Cage Beach in September, 2016 and further bolster our push for a marina in the area moving forward.”
“Council is working hard to improve our foreshores right throughout the City of Karratha so that each of our towns offers attractive seaside experiences for the local community and for visitors.”
A trial sand renourishment program will also form part of the works suite and will proceed in the early stages of construction phase.
