Chevron City of Surf for Activ returns to Karratha

04 Jul 2019

The oldest community fun run in Western Australia is expected to attract hundreds of participants when it returns to Karratha next month.

The Chevron City to Surf for Activ will be held on August 11 after Council endorsed a partnership with the organisers to continue support for this year’s event.

In previous years, the popular community and sporting event was expanded from a single event in Perth to a series commencing in Karratha and traveling to Geraldton, Albany and Busselton before finishing in Perth.

Nearly 400 people took part in the local event last year, with 332 participants in 2017 and 373 in 2016.

City of Karratha Director Development Services Ryan Hall said Karratha would be the only location outside the metro area to host a regional event this year.

“The City is proud to continue supporting the event this year, which helps to raise the City of Karratha’s profile as the regional capital of the North West,” Mr Hall said.

“Since its inception in 1975, the Chevron City to Surf for Activ has grown from hundreds to thousands of participants and raised more than 10 million dollars for people living with disability.

“Supporting this much-loved event that brings the community from across our five towns and further afield together each year aligns with Council’s Strategic Community Plan to provide access to fitness and wellbeing programs, support local business and activate the Karratha city centre.

“It also achieves Council’s Destination Management Plan objective to raise the City’s profile as an attractive place to host major events.”

Through the City’s Major Events Sponsorship Scheme, the City will provide $20,000 in-kind support to the event along with $5000 in funding.

Registrations for the 12km and 4km fun run or walk and a 4km wheelchair category are now open. Please visit to register.
