Bayly Ave redevelopment opens to public

17 Jun 2021

The $7.6 million Bayly Ave redevelopment is officially complete and has reopened to the public.

The major redevelopment of the only public road access into Karratha airport included road widening and resurfacing, drainage upgrades, improved lighting and will allow for greater safety and increased traffic speed and flow in the area.

The works carried out also provide more land for new developments, improved access to other airport land lots and new kerbs and footpaths.

City of Karratha Mayor Peter Long said the upgrade has completely reinvigorated the entrance into Karratha.

“Originally constructed in 1984, this redevelopment will meet the growing traffic and safety needs required in the area,” Cr Long said.

“The redevelopment of Bayly Ave represents the City’s biggest capital expenditure project for the 2020/21 financial year and I am thrilled to see the project completed,”

“An important component of this project for Council was to improve the aesthetics of our airport entrance so it is great to see a divided road with central lighting, a planted centre strip, new signage and extensive landscaping incorporated.”

$1.6 million of funding support for the project came through the Federal Governments Assistance Grant Program and State Government's Regional Road Group.

The works were carried out by local contractor Karratha Earthmoving. Further landscaping works in relation to an entry statement on Bayly Ave are underway and expected to be complete by the end of August.
