Dampier Palms and Hampton Oval redevelopment progresses

30 Nov 2018

An exceptional recreational facility in Dampier is one step closer after Council called for tenders for the multimillion dollar redevelopment this month.

The $10.7m Dampier Palms and Hampton Oval redevelopment will provide improved access to the beach and significantly enhance the existing amenity of the foreshore.

The project’s design features inclusive activity areas for families and youth, an esplanade and expansion of ‘The Palms’ to increase shade, barbecues, lighting and beach showers, while catering to a diverse range of water and land-based activities.

City of Karratha Mayor Peter Long said the redevelopment would capitalise on Dampier’s natural scenery and provide a welcoming focal point for the local community and visitors.

“This project is part of Council’s continued work to improve foreshores so our towns offers attractive coastal experiences for our community and visitors,” Cr Long said.

“This redevelopment will complement our upgrades to the Shark Cage Beach foreshore in 2016 and strengthen our push for a marina.”

The City has worked closely with the community to develop plans for the redevelopment, including a community forum in September.

Council reviewed and endorsed the final design in October and called for tenders this month, which close on December 12.
