City of Karratha

Council thanks outgoing Councillors

03 Nov 2017

With a new Council sworn in following the 2017 Local Government Elections, the City of Karratha will officially thank and farewell five outgoing Councillors this month, who take with them a combined service of more than 30 years.

Fiona White-Hartig, John Lally, Robin Vandenberg, Geoff Harris and Bart Parsons will be formally thanked for their service to the City of Karratha at the November Ordinary Council Meeting.

City of Karratha Mayor Peter Long said throughout their time on Council, each of the Councillors had their part to play in helping shape the services and facilities our residents enjoy today. Cr Long drew particular note to Fiona and John, each having served a decade on Council.

“Fiona has a real passion for the Pilbara, especially the communities of Wickham, Roebourne and Point Samson and I would like to thank her for her dedicated service to the City over the past ten years.”

“Fiona was Shire President from 2011 to 2013 and an integral part of delivering the Karratha Leisureplex, Frank Butler Centre and the extensive planning and consultation work that has gone into the Wickham Community hub.”

“Throughout her time on Council, Fiona served on a total of 16 standing committees and advisory groups including the Council representative for the Pilbara Joint Development Assessment Panel, Council representative and board member for the Pilbara Development Commission, Council representative and Deputy President of the Pilbara Regional Council and board member of the Regional Development Australia Northern Australia Alliance.”

Cr Long also thanked John Lally for his service.

“John Lally has lived here for the past 30 years and through his decade on Council was a key driver for The Youth Shed, the Karratha Leisureplex and the Dampier Marina.

“John sat on many advisory groups throughout his tenure on Council which have guided the development of the new Airport terminal, Red Earth Arts Precinct and provision of Public Art. He was also an important member of the Sister Cities Advisory Group, Dampier Community Hub Project Reference Group and the Council representative on the Pilbara Development Assessment Panel and the Pilbara Regional Council. He was passionate about seeing us become a City and a vital member of the City Status Advisory Group.”

“I would like to thank him for his time on Council both as a Councillor and as Deputy Mayor, he has provided invaluable experience, knowledge and support throughout.”

City of Karratha Mayor Peter Long also thanked Robin Vandenberg, Geoff Harris and Bart Parsons for their commitment to Council and the community throughout each of their terms. It was Robin’s second stint as a Councillor previously serving from 1987-1990.

“Robin, Geoff and Bart have really stood up for this community, getting behind those issues they see as being most important to residents and improving the services and amenity the City of Karratha provides,” Cr Long said.

“I would like to thank them for all of the hard work and dedication they have put into Council over their respective terms and I look forward to showing my appreciation formally later in the month,” he added.
